Vivid colors!

Sid (washing his hands in the bathroom, calls and asks me): Mamma, what is champagne?
Me (surprised): It's an alcoholic drink, white in color, something like soda.
Sid: Then is there pink champagne?
Me (SURPRISED and a tad confused): Maybe there is, like flavored drinks.
Sid (obviously not done with the questioning and STILL washing his hands): Is it kept in ice?
Me (Running to the bathroom now and asking him pointedly!!): Where did you see all this?
Sid (not at all perturbed by my tone, casually SINGS): Pink champagne on ice. It is there in 'Hotel California' lyrics!!
Me (makes a mental note to talk to Josh): Ok, usually champagne or wine is kept in a bucket of ice to keep it cold. Now come out!

With a kid, surprises are at every corner! This was all thanks to his keyboard classes!

Places

I have these cushion covers from Chumbak that have 'my happy place' printed on them. The cushions with those covers are on the ledge beneath the window in my room, where I sit and read or watch videos. (So that is my happy place indeed!)

One lazy Saturday morning, when I woke Sid up, he didn't want to get up. He looked at me, pointed to the bed and said 'my happy place'. We laughed about it, and later on he suddenly hugged me and said 'Actually you are my happy place!'

So now I am his happy place and also his favorite color (which he stated in an obviously matter of fact way the other day!)

The pressure of being a mom I tell you!! ;-)

Shifting scenes

(Scene 1: Mom (a.ka. me) coming back from work and being greeted by an over-enthusiastic 6 yr old)
Mom: "How was school?"
Sid: "It was good. You know we had discussion about God today."
Mom (frankly amazed that the teacher actually had a 'discussion' about God): "What did you discuss? Did you tell anything?"
Sid: "No, I had gone to the restroom."
Mom: OK!!

(Scene changes, Sid having dinner and hesitatingly tries tonDekayi palya)
Sid: "Mamma, this is very nice, it is so juicy, I am eating it all."
Mom: "Very nice."
Sid (amused): "You know why I am eating?"
Mom: "Why?"
Sid: "Because Ma'am talked about God today and so I am eating this."
Mom: "Ok, but what was talked about? You were in the restroom right."
Sid: "Ya, but Ma'am talked right, that's why."

(Scene ends with a befuddled, albeit, relieved Mom, asking the kiddo if he wants a second helping of tonDekayi palya.)

Ballebaaz

Sid is walking now!!! Its the most happiest thing one can see, with his tiny legs trying to balance and his hands waving in the air. He walks like a penguin and that IS cute! And he blabbers utter nonsense while he is walking. Looks and sounds very funny!

Well, that's almost stale news now. He has forgotten that he was crawling before. Even if he falls while walking, he gets up and resumes walking, rarely giving in to crawling. It is loads of fun, but we also need to be very careful about where he is going and what he is pulling, lifting etc.

So as usual, now a days, he carries a cricket bat in 1 hand and starts walking and pushing the ball around. We need to pass the ball to him and he starts waving it on the ground and hits the ball. Josh is very impressed with his son's cricketting skills.
This one time, when Sid was happily pushing the ball around, Josh said, and i quote, 'Notice how he does not scavenge the ball, he makes contact with it'!!!!!!! Sheesh! And I think I also heard him comment something about Sid's stance! God save Sid if he is not interested in cricket while growing up.

One more morning gone by

Today morning the kiddo was in full josh! He had a very authoritative stance and his limited verbal capability was in full use to confirm the authority. He was calling out to everyone very loudly (with his aaaa, ooooo and other gibberish). Felt like he was demanding that everyone talk only to him and not amongst each other. :-) Felt extra sad to leave him and come to work. Sigh. Keep reminding myself that it is my decision and that I shouldn't complain. So I won't!

Hope everyone's morning was as joyful as mine! If not, then make a note to yourself that you will be joyful, no matter what!

Ok, enough gyan for the day. Now go, do something totally stupid! Like how I collided head-on to the glass door in my office yesterday!! Yeah, totally like a saint-gobain glass ad!

Tuesday humor

So this real funny thing happened today. It is my mom's birthday. No!! that's not funny.
The funny thing happened when I called her. After completing the 'happy birthday' formalities, she told me that she has asked my father to get chocolates for her grandkids (my 2 mischievous nephews).

She further explained - '5-star matthe lollipop thangonDbanni andhe. Aadre school indha bandmele 5-star koDthini. Lollipop evening mele koDodhu. Swalpa time aadhru adhanna thintha sumne irthaare!!'

(Translation:I have asked him to get 5-star and lollipop. I will give them the 5-star after they come from school. Will not show the lollipop until evening. At least they will spend some time silently in the evening, eating the lollipop!!')

This and that

Sid is close to 6 months now and has started identifying people and his surroundings. Anything which looks new on his radar excites him to no end and he either stares at the new thing/person constantly or he tries to reach out and grab it.

Now I know why mothers get only 2/3 months maternity leave at work! Its
soooooo much easier to leave the kid at home and go to work when the kid is 2-3 months. Now, he smiles, talks, recognizes you and what not! Its going to be very tough leaving him and going to work. Working from home was better.

Deepawali
was fun with family. Sid was the star attraction of course! He must have enjoyed it thoroughly, as he refused to be put to sleep 2 days in a row!
My experiments with the oven continues and the oat cookies I tried came out burnt. The temperature is to be further reduced and the heating coils need to be taken to task! :-|

Sid typed on the laptop for the first time. These were his exact words/lyrics..call it what you want to!
sa szh jk ,mwcxa,mnaZgv za b xmn;'p-mklpl-okm mds?/zas[k,asdcpj[ko,[x .'z 'eee /M,LM,mndz / u ;l,'m

At 11.00pm, Josh nudges me and suddenly asks - 'Do you know what gives me immense satisfaction?'. A few things come to my mind. Maybe the fact that he put the kid to sleep and in spite of the cracker sounds in the neighborhood, he has not got up.. Or maybe the fact that he cleaned his beloved cycle and changed the tire's tube today?
Aloud, I ask, 'What?'
He says 'There is a whole stack of pigs and with 1 single yellow bird, you hit the wooden base and all the pigs fall and die'
A moment of silence and then I said 'This is so going on my blog!'
